Sugar or Salt Which one is Worse for Heart: Practices with salt and sugar are on the rise. Social media is abuzz about which is worse for the heart. But know the answer to this question from the mouth of expert nutritionist, not the information floating in the air.
According to experts, all the dreaded heart diseases are taking a back seat because our eating habits have not been properly addressed. In particular, the excess salt and sugar in our daily diet doubles the damage to heart health. And in such a critical situation, the main question is, sugar or salt, which is more harmful for the heart? Today we will know the answer to this question from Shravani Mukherjee, Chief Dietitian of Fortis Hospital, Kolkata.
Danger hidden in sugar
According to Shrabani Mukherjee, too much sugar is bad for any healthy person. Actually sugar has high calories. You will be surprised to know that 1 gram of sugar has about 4 calories. As a result, you understand that eating more sugar does not take time to gain weight. And if the weight increases, the risk of heart disease also increases. Also, studies have shown that consuming too much sugar on a regular basis increases the level of triglycerides in the blood. And when triglycerides increase, there is a risk of heart disease. So eat sugar carefully.
Eating salt will prevent heart disease
Remember, eating too much salt is bad for the body. It contains a lot of sodium chloride. This material retains water in the body. And if the level of water retention in the body increases, the blood pressure increases. Who does not know that high blood pressure causes serious damage to the heart. Even because of this, the risk of suffering from various heart diseases also increases. Therefore, the amount of salt intake should be reduced as much as possible. Otherwise, it will not take time to fall into the trap of heart disease, said Shravani Mukhopadhyay.
Salt or sugar, which is more harmful to the heart?
Salt and sugar are equally damaging to the heart, said Shrabani Mukhopadhyay. In his words, we have to maintain a safe distance from these two elements. Only then will it be possible to avoid the trap of heart disease. But the problem is, the food in the store has excess of both salt and sugar. Hence the problem starts from there. So avoid store food as much as possible. Also, its use in home cooking should be reduced. Otherwise there will be no end to the danger.
How much sugar should be consumed?
According to the American Heart Association, a healthy woman can eat 5 to 6 teaspoons of sugar a day. And for men, the calculation is 7 to 8 teaspoons. This is the calculation of the whole day.
It is important to mention here that apart from the amount of sugar you consume in cooking or tea, sugar is also added in honey , sweets, chocolate etc. So it is important to avoid eating such foods.
How much salt to eat?
According to Shrabani Mukhopadhyay, eating raw salt should be avoided as much as possible. In this context, the American Heart Association says that a healthy person can eat 6 grams of salt a day. In that case, one teaspoon of salt is your daily allowance. However, there are hidden salts in many foods including Chanachur, Kathivaja, Biscuits. So reduce the consumption of such foods as much as possible. Only then can you keep the heart healthy.
