Plants that purify indoor air in NASA research. According to NASA's 'Clean Air Study', some common indoor plants naturally purify the air in our homes by absorbing toxic gases such as formaldehyde, benzene or ammonia. According to the State of Global Air report, polluted air is a serious health risk to us, resulting in more than 7 million deaths worldwide in 2016-17. Some indoor plants tested by NASA are:
Snake Plant
NASA research shows this 'Garden Mum' is one of the best trees for cleaning the air. This plant removes a lot of ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde, trichloro ethylene, xylene from indoor air. This popular plant can be planted in the tub at low cost.
The peace lily
is an excellent air purifying plant. This plant grows in low light. Its yellow leaves will indicate that it is getting more sun than it needs. It is enough to give normal amount of water. Absorbs benzene, trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, xylene from indoor air. It produces beautiful white flowers in summer. But keep this tree away from cats, dogs and children. Because it will itch if it goes to the throat or stomach.
Spider plant
absorbs carbon monoxide, benzene, formaldehyde, pollution emitted from leather and rubber. When the root soil is dry, then water it. Keep away from direct sunlight.
Bamboo Palm Tree
The bamboo palm tree is one of the most effective plants for purifying formaldehyde from the air. Grown in sufficient sunlight, this plant grows 10 to 12 feet tall. A large amount of air can be purified. Bamboo palm trees release toxic pollutants like benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene from the air. It looks like a small coconut tree. Place in a shaded area next to furniture. It will absorb the pollution released from the furniture. Too much water can cause the roots to rot. Also take care that water does not accumulate.
Golden Pathos or Moneyplant
has an amazing ability to survive in any environment. Can survive without light, does not require much care. This creeping plant in any corner of your house will absorb pollution and keep the air livable. It absorbs benzene, trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, xylene.
Aloe vera
is an excellent air purifying plant. A small balcony off the side of the kitchen can be an added addition to where the sun comes in. Kitchen has cooking height. Aloe vera plants purify the air by removing 90% of formaldehyde and benzene to reduce this temperature. It also ensures air quality by eliminating toxic dust particles from the air.
Weeping Fig
It is also known as weeping figure or ficus tree. According to a NASA study, this house plant is capable of efficiently removing the indoor-air toxins formaldehyde and xylene.
Rubber plant
Ficus elastica (more commonly known as rubber plant, rubber tree or rubber tree plant) is a popular houseplant because of its waxy leaves. As a houseplant, the rubber tree grows anywhere from six to ten feet tall. Rubber plants are known for their overwhelming height and beautiful leaves.
