Vasco da Gama is the longest bridge in the European Union and the second longest in Europe after the Crimean Bridge. The main length of the bridge is 12.3 km. Construction of Lisbon's 25 de Abril Bridge began in 1995 on the north and south sides of the capital city to ease traffic congestion, and the bridge was completed in 1998. The bridge was subsequently opened to the general public on 29 March 1998. Today, the economic, commercial and cultural city of Lisbon plays a huge role in the infrastructure development of Lisbon and in the fiscal sector of Portugal.

Portugal recently inaugurated the world's longest pedestrian crossing bridge '516 Aroca Bridge'. This suspension bridge is located in the city of Auroca, one hour south of the country's commercial city of Porto. UNESCO recognized Auroca Geo Park is famous for nature tourism and outdoor activities. The length of this suspension bridge, written in the pages of history, is about 1,692 feet or 516 meters. This new bridge in the city of Auroca, under construction since May 2018, is inspired by the Inca bridges spread across the valleys of the Andes mountains. Currently, the construction of the bridge has transformed the municipality of Auroca into a city of great beauty.
