Health conscious people, whose finances are reasonable, buy organic food even if it costs a little more to ensure safe food. But what is the percentage of organic food available in the market now called organic food?
What is organic food?
Organic food or organic food are those foods that have not been used in the production of any kind of chemical fertilizers, antibiotics, hormones or pesticides. They are produced naturally without fertilizers or using organic fertilizers.
How organic are the organic foods in the market?
Having an 'organic' label on a food product doesn't mean that no pesticides or herbicides have been used in it!
A report in The Telegraph published a review of 237 studies, stating that not all organic foods on the market are 100% chemical-free.
The study found only 30 percent less pesticides in organic fruits and vegetables than conventionally grown fruits and vegetables.
Is it possible to be 100% organic?
Maybe not impossible, but quite difficult. Why it is difficult, you can easily understand if you know the criteria for being organic.
According to Bangladesh Organic Production Manufacturing Association, organic farming mainly requires five criteria:
1. The land must be free of chemicals for at least 3 years;
2. 10 meters of land should be free of chemicals;
3. Fertilizers should be environmentally friendly;
4. Irrigation needs to be safe; And
5. The seeds should also be organic.
That is, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides have been used in the cultivation – this aspect alone is not sufficient for an agricultural product to be organic.
Suppose a cow is not given any hormones, steroids or any other harmful chemicals directly. But the fresh grass that it is given to eat, chemicals have been used in its production. This cow's milk and meat is not 100% organic!
Similarly, the fish in the bill will not be organic if there is a crop field next to it, where chemical fertilizers have been applied and the fertilizer has been washed into the water of the bill with the rain.
'Organic food is much healthier' According to scientists, this is a misconception. Stanford Center for Health Policy teacher Dr. "Some people believe that organic food is always healthier and more nutritious," says Crystal Smith-Spangler. Surprisingly, we did not see this (in research)!'
The results obtained from the study are that the difference in vitamins between organic and conventional products is insignificant. High levels of phosphorus have been found in organic byproducts. In this context, the researchers say, very few people suffer from phosphorus deficiency, so this aspect of organic food is less significant.
So why not eat organic food?
There is no prohibition to eat. But since being labeled 'organic' doesn't mean it's organic, it's important to check. Instead of buying such products online, it is better to buy directly from the store.
If the only objective is to eat food free of harmful chemicals or pesticides, then you can eat organic food. But 'more nutritious' - simply looking at the label would be buying stupidity at a higher price. Because mainly because of our excessive interest in organic food, organic products are so expensive in the country.
Miss. According to Spangler, we need to eat more fruits and vegetables, regardless of the process by which they are produced. Because most of them are deficient in their diet.
In other words, choosing between organic and non-organic fruits and vegetables should not be reduced at all.
